What is Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter?

Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter is a feature that was introduced in Windows 7 and later versions of Windows. It is a virtual network adapter that can connect to the regular wireless networks and another virtual network adapter that can connect to another network such as an ad-hoc network. How does it work?

Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter works by virtualizing the physical network adapter in the same way as VMWare virtualizes the entire OS. It creates a software-based wireless adapter that can be configured and managed by the user. The user can then set up a wireless access point using the command prompt or a third-party software like Connectify. The virtual network adapter can share the internet connection of the main network adapter with the devices that connect to it.

What are the benefits of using it?

There are many benefits of using Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter, such as:

  • It can save you money by avoiding the need to buy a separate router or a Wi-Fi extender.

  • It can increase your security by creating a separate network for your guests or devices that you don't trust.

  • It can improve your connectivity by extending the range of your existing Wi-Fi network.

  • It can enhance your productivity by allowing you to access files and resources from different devices on the same network.
